Hypoallergenic basswood saunas

Hypoallergenic basswood provides the perfect atmosphere for detoxification. Used by beekeepers because of its tannin and odor-free properties, basswood is a great wood choice for those with sensitive skin or smell. Unlike many hypoallergenic woods, basswood is exceptionally strong and less affected by temperature change and humidity. Clean, contemporary, color gives basswood a sophisticated appearance that is versatile for any interior.

Canadian Cedar

The traditional choice of saunas for decades, our Canadian cedar is as elegant as it is aromatic. The fresh scent of cedar will enliven your senses and create a relaxing setting for your sauna therapy.

  • Cedarwood lasts longer than other wood when used in a sauna. Its exceptional thermal insulating properties resist splits caused by the heating up and cooling down of the sauna.

  • Cedarwood is a wood of exceptional beauty with natural colors ranging from a light honey, mellow ambers, reddish cinnamons to rich sienna browns.

  • Cedarwood is subtly aromatic which punctuates the true sauna experience. The characteristic fragrance of cedar soothes the senses without the overpowering effect of perfumes.

  • Cedarwood contains extractives that are anti-fungi and prevent decay. The two principal extractives that are responsible for the decay resistance are Thujaplicans and water soluble phenolics. This unique quality is important in the sauna where moisture and heat combine to create an ideal environment for molds and bacterial growth. Abrasive chemicals which are harmful to human bodies must be used to disinfect the sauna if other woods are used. The use of cedarwood minimizes the usage of these chemicals and provides a healthy experience.

  • Cedarwood can be easily maintained by using detergent and water to remove simple stains. More permanent stains can be removed by resurfacing or sanding the cedarwood. This process will return the natural beauty and unique aromatic properties of the cedarwood.

  • Cedarwood contains aromatic oils that are known for their healing and cleansing properties to aid detoxification. Amazon.com states that “Cedarwood (Oil) is widely used in the cosmetic and perfume industry, especially for men's toiletries. It also breaks down mucus, making it useful for treating catarrhal conditions, especially bronchitis. Cedarwood can also help disperse excess fluids through the body.

Please note that an extremely small percentage of the population has a condition known as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity ( MCS ). While this is not a universally recognized disorder in the medical field, these people have an adverse physical reaction to low levels of many common chemicals and cannot tolerate any aromatic oils, perfumes shampoo or herbs. However, for the majority of the population, cedarwood is the wood of choice.
