We were so happy to support our partner, Generation Rescue, during the 2016 Autism Education Summit. Generation Rescue is the leading national organization that provides hope, information, and immediate treatment and assistance to families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As you may know, there is no known cure for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t hope.
In fact, one amazing client and partner of ours is Zack Peter from sibling warrior, and while Zack’s brother has Autism, they have noticed significant improvements after using Sunlighten Saunas such as comprehension, language and better sleep patterns. Here is a video of Zack and his brother!
But look at me getting ahead of myself! The Autism Education Summit took place September 30th – October 2nd in Dallas Texas, and I had the opportunity to learn from a panel of doctors about Autism and breaking-edge news and technology available today to support the families of those diagnosed with ASD.
What I Learned During the Autism Education Summit
Dr. Daniel Amen
Dr. Amen is a TedX speaker and has etched out his career by marrying medical imaging and psychiatry. He strongly believes that brain health is central to all health and success and he was the keynote speaker for the summit.
Who is this doctor? The Washington Post called Dr. Amen the most popular psychiatrist in America and Sharecare named him the web’s #1 most influential expert and advocate on mental health. Dr. Amen is a physician, double board certified psychiatrist, and ten-time New York Times bestselling author.
Aside from his many accolades and his ground-breaking research into healthy brain functioning, his clinics (Amen Clinics) have seen more than 1,000 adults and children with ASD. The SPECT (a form of medical imaging) studies of these patients reveal that their brain patterns tend to have high activity or low activity (and both in some cases) which has an impact on one’s behavior and tendencies.
For example, did you know that increased brain activity in the anterior cingulate gyrus can lead to repetitious speech and behavior? Or that decreased brain activity in the cerebellum may impede motor skills? Using SPECT imaging has led Dr. Amen to unlock some amazing information and insight into those who have ASD. His presentation at the Autism Education Summit was amazing – one of the things I truly love is witnessing someone with passion present their findings to a group of people who WANT to know more. You can check out his TedX talk here!
Another speaker at the Autism Education Summit was Del Bigtree. Del is an Emmy Award-winning producer and has a background both as a filmmaker and an investigative medical journalist. He was invited to speak at the summit, and he talked about how harmful vaccines can actually hinder brain development in younger children.
One such investigative reporting Mr. Bigtree conducted included the story of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) Whistleblower and the fraud perpetrated by the CDC. This story absolutely captivated the audience and we are pleased to say VAXXED, his ground-breaking documentary, was released in April of this year.
As Del uncovered more information, the lies unfolded and layers of corruption and deception came to the forefront. He uncovered the wrongful destruction of Andrew Wakefield’s career orchestrated by Big Pharma and the UK Department of Health. Bigtree is proud to be working side by side with Dr. Andrew Wakefield, one of the most important minds of our time who authored a study that linked MMR vaccines with Autism.
Bigtree and Wakefield partnered together to create VAXXED which covers the harmful ramifications of vaccines on young children. They demand the formation of a genuine independent research body conducting legitimate science to ensure that all vaccines are truly safe, free from corporate corruption that puts money into the pockets of big business. In short, they are not anti-vaccine – they simply support the creation of vaccines which are safe for our children.
And Many Other Notables!
There were many other speakers at the summit as well including Dr. Jerry Kartzinel who is a New York Times Best Selling Author and nationally recognized speaker. Ryan Neufeld is an NFL star who, along with his wife Dawn, presented at the summit. And also Jenny McCarthy graced the keynote panel with her presence and presented her latest book Healing and Preventing Autism. Jenny McCarthy was very interesting because her six (6) year old son lost his diagnosis and, according to Jenny, has been cured of ASD.
The biggest thing I took home from the conference was that a healthy body is a great start, but marrying a healthy body with a healthy mind is crucial. The fact is this – we don’t know the causes of ASD, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about it. Generation Rescue has been a partner of Sunlighten for many years, and they offer more than just information on Autism Spectrum Disorder. They offer support groups, conferences and tools to support families who have people with ASD understand more fully what is going on with their loved ones and how they process the world around them.
The summit was enlightening, enlivening and helped me to understand the world behind the eyes of a person with ASD. At the end of the summit, I attended a fundraising event A Night of Hope hosted by our partner, Generation Rescue. The fundraiser was tons of fun! I even met a member of NKOTB (New Kids on the Block).
Wishing you all the best!
