June 13th is Global Wellness Day and we are ready to celebrate! Why do we celebrate Global Wellness Day? At Sunlighten, we want you to take advantage of all things wellness and empower yourself to feel your best! We put together some quick tips on how you can take part in this movement and celebrate your wellness.
Your Global Wellness Day Checklist
#1 – Take a Sunlighten Sauna Session
We might be a little biased in our opinion that Sunlighten infrared therapy is the ultimate wellness tool. But, it is hard to argue that relaxation, detoxification, natural pain relief, and heart health will heal and prevent illness. It can also provide a much-needed escape from our technology-driven world and allow you to be present in the moment. If you don’t have a sauna, get online and search for “Sunlighten sauna near me” to find one in a local business.
Take a sauna selfie and share using hashtag #SunlightenWellnessDay and #GlobalWellnessDay.
#2 – Drink More Water
Staying hydrated is one of the most important and easiest things you can do to maintain your health and well-being. While water is critical for survival, our bodies cannot store water, and we must, therefore, be diligent about keeping a steady influx of fluids. Hydration is especially important during the summer months – as well as before, after and during sauna use – as our bodies lose fluids rapidly in the heat. Read our tips for staying hydrated.
#3 – Forego Plastic Bottles
The overuse of plastics should be a concern for anyone living on planet Earth. During World War II, plastic production increased by 300%. It was a miracle material that lasted forever. Unfortunately, no one really stopped to think about what that meant. Now, our ecosystem is paying the price for this convenience. So many of us are used to plastic water bottles and habits can be hard to break. Our friend Katie Wells (aka Wellness Mama) shared some alternatives to plastic water bottles here.
#4 – Eat Healthy Foods
It might be easier to grab a quick meal to go instead of preparing a salad before work. But, a clean diet is important for health and longevity. Eating clean is more than avoiding junk foods; it is about eating whole and natural foods while being conscious of the food’s origin to your plate. Minimally processed, refined and handled food is an awesome way to keep your wellness in check. Read the Quest for True Health with Ashley James to learn how she reversed numerous health conditions with clean eating.
#5 – Join Our Private Facebook Community
If you are not in our private Facebook group, today is the perfect day to join! Our vision with this group is to create a space that empowers and inspires members to live healthier, happier lives. We will share healthy tips and the latest wellness info from Sunlighten associates and other wellness experts. Most importantly, we want this to be a place for members to ask questions and share insights from their personal wellness journeys. Click here to join.
#6 – Take Your Fitness Outdoors
We all know that physical activity is non-negotiable for a healthy lifestyle. Moving your routine from the gym to the outdoors can add mood-boosting benefits. Playing outside can be just as beneficial for adults as it is for children. Check out 10 Ways to Incorporate Nature Into Your Workout Routine.
#7 – Do a Good Deed for Someone
There is no doubt that it feels good to do a good deed. Research shows that there are also physiological benefits that can contribute to long-term health. Two large studies found that older adults who volunteered reaped benefits in their health and well-being. Those who volunteered were living longer than non-volunteers. Another large study found a 44% reduction in early death among those who volunteered a lot. Use this day as a reason to spread kindness and pay it forward in your community.
# 8 – Get a Full Nights Sleep
Poor sleep habits can affect our health in dozens of ways. Spend a little time working on your sleep environment today. Create the perfect sleep cave, and you will arise fresher, brighter, and optimally energized. Check out our eight sleep cave hacks here.
