Health Benefits of Saunas featured in Pilates Style

sauna benefits pilates style According to recent research published in Alternative Medicine Review, a pre- or post-workout sauna session has been shown to offer multiple health benefits.  An article in this month’s Pilates Style discusses those sauna benefits and even highlights three businesses, each equipped with a Sunlighten Far Infrared Sauna and open to the public!

It’s no secret that the far infrared technology found in Sunlighten Saunas heats the body up from the inside out…and for those pairing their sauna experience with exercise, joint mobility is often greatly improved and increased.  This is where sauna therapy might be useful pre-workout.

Michele Olson, Ph.D., F.A.C.S.M., C.S.C.S., recently led a study looking at the effect of a full-spectrum infrared sauna on flexibility. The full-spectrum infrared sauna used in the study was Sunlighten’s mPulse model.  In Dr. Olson’s study, stretching while exposed to the sauna elicited higher, greater and more pronounced changes in acute range of motion in the hip, hamstrings and low back.  Furthermore, in the most recent issue of Massage magazine, Dr. Olson recommends full-spectrum infrared saunas to massage therapists.

There are also those that advocate for a post-workout sauna, because the body is already warmed up and stretched out…thus “priming” the body to receive the full spectrum of sauna benefits.  These include detoxification, relaxation, weight loss, pain relief, lower blood pressure, improved circulation, skin purification, wound healing and improved cellular health.
