Words of Wisdom from JP Sears: Empowerment Through Laughter

My second favorite biohack for creating an open mind that doesn’t stop growing or learning is laughter. Specifically, laughter that’s arising out of amusement with yourself is the most beneficial variety in my experience. In other words, laughing at yourself is a nutritious source of mind empowerment that can tear through the self-imposed cocoons of limited beliefs and stories that all people impose on themselves to one degree or another. Being careful not to slide down the slippery slope of laughing at yourself from the angle of shame is essential, as that is psychologically toxic and ultimately closes the mind …

Have a Heart Healthy February!

It’s February, and with it comes love, romance and all things related to matters of the heart… and speaking of heart, February is also American Heart Month.  So while passion and amour fill the air, it is also important to recognize the human heart as an organ vital to our health and quality of living. Bringing awareness to heart-healthy living is very important to us at Sunlighten, and with our longstanding partnership with the American Heart Association, we are paying it forward for healthy hearts. Every February, we donate a portion of our proceeds to the AHA and participate in …

Dieting Myths and Truths

Dieting Myths and Truths! Let’s face it:  our society really subscribes to “instant gratification” in many forms.  We want Amazon Prime, so we can get our new jeans within a day. We limit our purchases to under 20 items so we can get in the speedy lane at the grocery store. I personally get annoyed when my business cards aren’t ready within 24 hours.  In a time where we are used to receiving what we want, WHEN we want it, it is no wonder people are always looking for the next new diet or miracle pill that guarantees they lose …

Completing IRONMAN – A Journey in Itself

It’s done!  I completed my first IRONMAN race and feel incredibly humbled and grateful for all the support I received from friends, family and mentors.  I had a tremendous amount of support from my wife who also completed her first marathon on October 15th, 2016. In the words of Don Williams Jr., our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.  I learned a lot about myself throughout this process – it taught me what I was made of and I was constantly bumping up against my own perceived limitations.  The good thing about limitations is they aren’t permanent.  With …
