Pain Relief: Jacob “Dr. T” Teitelbaum on The Ricki Lake Show

Dr T on ricki lake We are very excited that a friend of ours, Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, – also known as “Dr. T” – is appearing on The Ricki Lake Show this week. Dr. T will be talking about “How to Stop the Pain” or, more specifically, natural approaches to pain management.

Dr. T, a Sunlighten partner, is a board certified internist and Medical Director of the national Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers and Chronicity. He is author of the best-selling book From Fatigued to Fantastic! and several other books.

He is the lead author of groundbreaking “gold standard” research on effective treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, which was published in the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, volume 8, number 2 in 2001. He was editorialized in the Journal of the American Academy of Pain Management, where his integrative treatment protocol was recognized as “standard of practice” for chronic pain conditions.

Dr. T believes that pain can be a helpful early warning that your body has a health issue that needs attention. Because it can sometimes be hard to pinpoint the cause of some pain, he created what he calls the S.H.I.N.E. protocol for a holistic approach to avoiding unnecessary pain.

S.H.I.N.E. stands for Sleep, Hormonal support, treating Infections & inflammation, Nutritional support, and Exercise.

S is for Sleep

According to Dr. T, your body uses sleep to repair the daily tissue damage that results from muscle overuse. He recommends that you get 8-9 hours of sleep every night.

H is for Hormonal Support

Unexplained pain can sometimes be the result of hormonal deficiencies, Dr. T suggests. Underactive thyroid function, in particular, can lead to ongoing physical discomfort, as well as unusual weight gain.

A physician can look for specific symptoms of an underactive thyroid and prescribe a low dose of thyroid hormone or even an herbal alternative, referred to as a “thyroid grandular.”

I is for Infections & Overactive Immune Function

Unexplained pain is often the result of an undetected infection within your body. Dr. T says yeast overgrowth is frequently the culprit. Avoiding excess sugar and taking an herbal supplement can help.

Herbal formulas are also recommended by Dr. T for overheated immune systems, which, he says, can also contribute to soreness and aches.

N is for Nutrition

The typical modern diet is typically deficient of the necessary daily nutrients. Without adequate nutrition, your body can’t keep tissue healthy and bodily systems running well, according to Dr. T. One simple way to help your body out is to take a daily multivitamin and mineral supplement. A ribose supplement will also help maintain healthy energy levels and may help reduce muscle stiffness, soreness and fatigue.

E is for Exercise

Moderate exercise to keep your muscles reasonably conditioned is essential for avoiding pain.
