Skin Detox Regimen: Sauna + Dry Brush

Sunlighten infrared therapy is an amazing tool for well-toned, healthy, great-looking skin.  After all, it is one of the biggest anti-aging trends in the celebrity world.  There is nothing like the glow I get after a Sunlighten sauna session.  But as the summer comes to an end and the air becomes crisp and dry, I feel my sauna skincare regimen needs a boost so I’ve incorporated dry brushing.  Dry Brushing is an easy and effective way to boost your detox session and give your skin an even more radiant, healthy glow.

Dry brushing affects one of the body’s largest and most intricate organs, the skin.  A gentle brushing prior to your sauna session serves as a light exfoliation by opening and unclogging pores, removing dead skin cells and stimulating cellular regeneration. This also increases blood flow and encourages the detoxifying process of the body’s toxin removal system, the lymphatic system.  Stimulation of the lymphatic system promotes the flow and drainage of toxins, leading you to an even deeper skin detox.

dry brush strokes

Prior to your sauna session, use a soft, natural bristle brush, like the Polishing Brush from Aromatherapy Associates.  Start from your feet and brush upwards towards your heart center in gentle, sweeping strokes. As you continue over your entire body, keep the motion gentle with light pressure as to not damage the skin. Now, enjoy a relaxing Sunlighten sauna session while you sweat out the impurities in your skin.

After your session, be mindful of the cleansers or lotions you use as your skin will be more absorbent.  Use a nutrient-rich cleanser to nourish your skin while keeping it purified after your session.  We like Safe House Naturals Detox Face & Body Wash or Activated Charcoal Soap Bar by The Yellow Bird because they contain all natural, chemical-free ingredients.
