Get to the Root of the Problem: Biological Medicine Treats More Than Symptoms

In October, I had the opportunity to visit the Hansa Center for Optimum Health in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. David Jernigan, the founder of the Hansa Center, is a big believer in integrative medicine. Several years ago he purchased a Sunlighten mPulse Empower sauna for Hansa, and he regularly incorporates 3-in-1 infrared sauna therapy into his treatment plans.

So when Sarah Wickens, Sunlighten’s medical accounts manager, and I were able to visit Hansa, we were excited to share how the technology behind our infrared saunas can help their patients with Lyme disease and other toxic ailments.

Treating the Whole Person

The Hansa Center is an alternative health care clinic founded on the principles of biological medicine. If you’re not familiar with the term, biological medicine is a holistic approach to health and wellness that allows the human body to maximize its own innate healing powers. How empowering is that?

As the Biological Medicine Network at the Marion Institute explains, biological medicine looks at the underlying causes of disease – including diet, food allergies, stress, aging, environmental factors, and exposure to bacteria or viruses – and works to bring the body back to its natural balance to restore wellness and vitality.

The Hansa Center focuses on treating the whole person naturally, without conventional medications such as antibiotics that really only mask disease and ultimately act as toxins in the body. As infrared sauna technology has developed in recent years, the doctors at Hansa have integrated it into their patients’ treatment plans with great success.

The Science Behind 3-in-1 Infrared

Whenever I speak about the benefits of infrared sauna therapy, I know it can sound too good to be true. I watched infrared heal my brother naturally, and I know how much healthier I feel when I keep up with regular sauna sessions. But if you haven’t experienced it yourself, it can be hard to understand how amazing you feel after a session—purified, lighter on your feet, MORE ENERGY!

That’s why Sarah and I wanted to share the science behind our mPulse 3-in-1 infrared sauna with the patients at the Hansa Center. The 3-in-1 means that the mPulse sauna delivers three treatments in one place: near, mid and far infrared wavelengths at the optimal levels to achieve specific wellness goals.

You can watch the full presentation for more details, but here’s a summary:

  • Near infrared improves cell health – The shortest wavelength, near infrared (NIR), penetrates the skin’s surface more effectively than the other two. That's why it's highly effective at stimulating collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improving overall skin tone, elasticity and clarity. NIR also promotes cell regeneration and wound healing. To be truly effective, NIR must be delivered at the vital wavelength of 850nm without extreme heat or light. That’s why the mPulse uses LED lights to transmit NIR. At this wavelength, LEDs can trigger a natural biochemical reaction in the cells that stimulate growth and repair.
  • Mid infrared reduces inflammation – Inflammation can be the root of so many symptoms. Mid infrared (MIR) is a longer wavelength that can penetrate deeper into the body’s soft tissue where inflammation occurs. MIR helps expand blood vessels and increases circulation, allowing more oxygen to reach injured areas of the body. This reduces pain and speeds the healing process.
  • Far infrared detoxifies the body – The longest wavelength, far infrared (FIR), reaches deepest into the body, where toxins are stored. By raising your core body temperature, FIR stimulates the sweat glands, resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat that leaves you feeling revitalized. BONUS: As part of the body’s thermo-regulatory process, sweating increases heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, which means you’re also burning calories!

Choosing the Right Infrared Treatment for You

Sunlighten looked at all the research regarding which wavelengths are most effective at producing specific health benefits. Then we preprogrammed those configurations into the Solocarbon heaters in the Empower sauna.

Patients suffering from Lyme disease can simply press the detoxification program and know they’re receiving the exact infrared frequency for their desired result. When they’re ready to move on to the next stage of treatment, or just try something new, they can choose one of the other preprogrammed settings for cardio, pain relief, relaxation, weight loss or skin health. Or, patients can create a custom program based on their personal preferences. How awesome is that?

Over the years, Sarah and I have worked with many Sunlighten customers who have experienced natural relief from Lyme disease and other ailments, so it was especially meaningful for us to visit with the patients at the Hansa Center. We loved being able to explain our technology and pass on some of the tips and successes our customers have shared with us. We look forward to hearing many more happy endings from our friends at Hansa in the future!
